Designers don’t PR: Integrating design into large, open source projects

We know that technology created in partnership with design is good business: the era of technology by technologists for technologists has gone the way of the <blink> tag. And yet, the pragmatics of folding design neatly into the development process is not super easy, as it relies on the development of a currency to measure the value that design brings into the technology creation process.

Join me for a fun session in which I share reflections and musings on my year of working as a contributing designer on the WordPress Gutenberg editor – a large, distributed, open source project that lives in GitHub.  Presented at GitHub Constellation Brisbane, 23 Oct 2017 (view slides here).
